Jumps Racing to Continue in Victoria

JUMPS RACING TO CONTINUE IN VICTORIA

After lengthy consideration the Board of Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) has unanimously
resolved to continue with jumps racing in Victoria.
 
Jumps racing will continue with a number of new conditions, many of which will be
implemented immediately.
 
“During its deliberations the Board received written and verbal submissions representing
views from both sides of the jumps racing debate. The racing industry submissions were
unanimous in support of jumps racing,” said RVL Chairman Michael Duffy.
 
After extensive consultation, in particular with jockeys and trainers, the Board will adopt a
range of recommendations from the Jumps Review Panel which it believes will make
jumps racing safer for jockeys and horses. The Board understands accidents will occur

Racing Victoria Limited Chief Executive Officer Rob Hines has announced today that the
RVL Board will hold a special meeting next week to consider the incidents that have
occurred in the jumps season to date and consider the future of jumps racing in Victoria.
He has asked the RVL Jumps Review Panel to prepare a report for the Board on each of
the five horse fatalities that have occurred in jumps races and trials this season.
Three jump races were scheduled to be conducted at the Moe meeting on Sunday. These
races will now be run as high weight flat races.
A decision on the future of jumps racing will be announced by the end of next week
(Friday 15 May). No further comment will be made by Racing Victoria on the matter until
that time.

 

 

2009/10 Race Dates

Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) has released the Victorian Race Dates for the 2009/10 racing season after an extensive consultation process with metropolitan clubs, Country Racing Victoria, country clubs, stakeholders and Tabcorp.

A total of 115 metropolitan meetings have been scheduled for next season with one significant change being the addition of a twilight meeting to be run at Moonee Valley on Sunday 13 December to coincide with the Hong Kong International Races.

There will be an increase in country TAB meetings to 378 and an increase in Non-TAB meetings from 38 to 42 to assist clubs in building event days. The number of country Wednesday meetings will also increase from 13 to 18. Moe Racing Club has picked up an extra day going from 14 racedays in 2208/09 race season to 15 racedays in the 2009/10 season with an extra raceday in January.....Read More

 

 

 

 

Racecourse & Training Directions Paper Submissions Close

More than 100 submissions have been received from country clubs, trainers and stakeholders in response to the Victorian Racecourse & Training Facilities Directions Paper released in December last year.
